Last month while Birchbox had a promotion for extra points when sending gift subscriptions I ordered a 3 month subscription for my teen niece (actually she’s 12 and a half but whateverrrr). Apparently when you gift a subscription you get a welcome box – even when your recipient fills out their profile immediately. I wish that the box was tailored for the profile I created (teenager, low income, oily skin, basically a generic teen girl!), but I’m sure this makes it easy for Birchbox to send out initial boxes quickly! But don’t think that my teenager was disappointed – no way! Apparently it is a SUPER BIG DEAL that she’s getting 2 more months of this box and frankly, she loved this one all by herself (oh sweetie wait until you see the swag you’re getting for Christmas! I heard you like makeup, so I brought you a pile! I’m winning Aunt of the year this year!). I forget how awesome it is to receive grown up things when you’re a teenager and aching to be that way even though your family would love to believe you’re still their precious tiny baby!

December 2013 Birchbox Welcome Box

Honestly neither of us could figure out what the box wrapper was all about. It matched up with the Birchbox “head’s up” logo on the packing slip (which neither of us paid any attention to) to tell you about Birchbox rewards. Standard box! The Welcome card! The information card! The haul! We were both excited to see Chuao in there and we enjoyed the popping candy sensations while we checked out the rest of the box.

Folle de Joie eau de parfum sample This was a nice gentle scent with a rose base. I’m thinking that silly Birchbox notes like “spritz on wrist” would be helpful for a teenager.

Eyeko Skinny Eyeliner My girl knows how to line (and she doesn’t do raccoon eyes either, I’m so proud!) and she was thrilled to test this one out! It might take some trial & error like it would for any of us, and that’s what the teenage years are all about!

Beauty Protector Shampoo & Conditioner I dislike getting s&c in a box, but this is a nice universal item (and I admit that Beauty Protector smells great!). [Note to self – remind teenager to save these ones for the school dance!]

Based on the reaction of a teenager, this is still a great box to get, even if it’s a universal welcome box! She thought the items “were really cool” and “can’t wait to see more!” Mom (my cousin) reports that her haul between this box and another box were taken home, displayed proudly, and examined over and over and over again.

We haven’t quite decided if I’ll get the boxes and photograph them and send them along (most likely) or if she’ll get them and send me photos (she doesn’t want the responsibility – what a teen!). She will owe me her reviews however, and I’m looking forward to sharing what a teen thinks of Birchbox to help you decide if it’s the right subscription for your teenager!

Check out all my Birchbox Reviews! Don’t forget to take a look at other Beauty Subscription Boxes.
