Treatsie is an artisan sweets sampler box. Each box includes amazing artisan sweets from 3 – 4 small, independent vendors, which change every month, and has a retail value of $20 – $25 before shipping.

I was super excited to open this box. It was snack time, we were packing, and we all needed something to munch on. This was a real treat. A single person could make this box last a little longer. I’m happy with the value of Treatsie. I feel I get my money’s worth out of it even if it’s not a gazillion dollars of value for $20. As long as it’s the price of the box I’m good.IMG_3978

Seattle Chocolates – Dark Chocolate Truffle Bar, Milk Chocolate Truffle Bar, Total Toffee Milk Chocolate Truffle Bar ($10.50) – WOW I cannot believe these were in here! Despite my box taking a bizarre circuitous route through North Carolina and taking 4 days to arrive, they were fortunately unmelted. Treatsie has a NO MELTING Guarantee!IMG_3979

Shotwell’s Caramels – Espresso & “Old Fashioned” Cocktail ($6) The Old Fashioned is buttery soft caramel infused with aromatic bitters, Kentucky bourbon whiskey and orange extract and the espresso is infused with espresso beans, house-made Tennessee whiskey-vanilla extract and almond extract, finished with a sprinkling of hand-crushed espresso beans.  Daddy was thrilled with those espresso!!! IMG_3980

Raley’s Confectionary Treatsie Variety Mix Hard Candy ($6) – Look at the details on these candies! They were yummy – blueberry, banana, raspberry, cherry, lime, lemon, grapefruit and orange flavors – but the details were astonishing!  All natural coloring – I happily let the kids sample these!

While I enjoy Treatsie, I’m finding that they greatly exaggerate a lot of their “retail” prices (like $12 for a dozen Grey Ghost cookies, when the Grey Ghost website charges $8). I happened to order some Avenue Sweets caramels on the Treatsie site and found (after the order came without the item) that they were out of stock and had asked Avenue Sweets to send it directly to me. Fortunately, as it turned out, because the box from Aveue Sweets was about twice the size of the one Treatsie had offered! Those caramels in this month’s box were good, but I wouldn’t have paid $3 for each sample – and the website for them sells the regular packages for $9.95, not $12. Just FYI.

I am somewhat put off by this marketing tactic. They really should not inflate the retail price to make the box value fit the subscription value price. Hoping they know the buyers will leave if they feel duped.
