I was surprised to find when updating my coffee subscriptions page the other day that Tonx had turned into Blue Bottle Coffee.  Blue Bottle Coffee is a coffee supply subscription (as opposed to the sampling kind). Get 12 oz of beans every other week for $17. Double your bag for an extra $11! They also offer half bag and triple bag subscriptions. The prices vary by a buck or so on your coffee selections.

I opted for a blend on my husband’s coffee.

I’m going to try an Origins subscription next. You can set up your subscription for every week up to every 4 weeks. It’s totally easy to pause/skip or cancel online. I’m really impressed with Blue Bottle and its subscription management actually!

Within I think 3 days we’d received the coffee on my husband’s subscription.

“House of Good,” named after a café and retail space James Murphy will soon open in Brooklyn, is a supremely balanced espresso. Its flavor profile – dried cherry, cocoa, meyer lemon – is a harmony between the voluptuous and the austere: It’s akin to the second movement of Carl Nielsen’s Symphony No. 3 – or, perhaps, to that buzzing, syncopated synth line from “Dance Yrself Clean.”

Hipsters.

This is what I see when I log in. And here are my husband’s tasting notes!

House of Good: caveat: this blend is tailored to espresso, so my standard drip testing likely failed to harness the full potential of the bean. Still, it had the roasty, tannic quality that would make a potent pull, but didn’t cross over into bitterness. The cherry nose is subdued, the cocoa body pronounced, and the meyer lemon finish powerful.  My aunt drinks her espresso with nothing but a squeeze of lemon; I imagine she would find this blend to present that desired tart crispness without garnish.
