Universal Yums is an international snack subscription! Every month you’ll take a trip to a new country and munch on brand new snacks. Yum Yum! There are two sizes of box, the Yum ($13) and the Yum Yum ($25). This is the Yum Yum box.

For February we went to Italy. I love the tissue paper set up to look like the country of the month’s flag.

The information card has descriptions of all the snacks, plus they have translated ingredients on their site. There’s also a clue to next month’s box – which I’m pretty sure is China (how will they pull off the tissue paper flag??).

Everything in the February box. Lots of sweets this month.

IMG_9266

G. Cova & Co Crostatina Ciliegia Cherry Tart – Good taste but a bit crumbly. We found that about half of the items in the box went very well with Italy’s coffee-centric culture.

IMG_9267

Lazzaroni Amaretti di Sarrono – Apparently you’re supposed to shape these wrappers and set them on fire to make a wish. I think we’ll skip that part but these spicy amaretti cookies were good!

IMG_9268

Nonni’s Cioccolati & Salted Caramel Biscotti – My husband will be dunking these! Oh wait, the card says Italians dunk them in wine or orange juice. Really???

IMG_9269

Ferrero Raffaello – I love Ferrero but I’ll let my husband lay claim to these (he loves white confections). Coconut, almond, and white filling.

IMG_9270

Pernigotti Classici (the pyramid things) aremade with gianduia, which is the generic name for what Nutella is – a chocolate & hazelnut butter.

Pernigotti Nocciogioie (really, that’s a lot of vowels) – whole hazelnut & hazelnut cream enrobed in milk chocolate.

IMG_9271

Perugina Baci – if you haven’t had these, there’s little hazelnut bits and a whole hazelnut in this dark chocolate. One of my faves, I was really happy to see it. We plowed through all the chocolate because, well, happy Valentine’s day!

IMG_9272

Bye Bye Coffee n’ CreamBon Bons and Bye Frutta Bon Bons – Little candies. I enjoy getting these sprinkled in with the rest of the items.

IMG_9273

Di Nonna Lemon Pizzelle – I actually didn’t get a sense of lemon from these at all! Very lightly flavored and textured. We put cookie butter on them.

IMG_9274

Balocco Crema Cacao Wafers – I love wafer cookies and these are really top notch – light airy wafers and dark chocolately cream. They were actually way better than we thought they’d be. I am always happy to see these big snack items in international snack subscriptions.IMG_9275Rosemary & Olive Oil Bruschettini – the sole savory item in this month’s box! We haven’t tried them yet, we’re saving for a bruschetta,  but you could just eat them like Gardetto’s.

This was a yummy & fun box. I think for $25 a month it’s an excellent value (I didn’t do a breakdown though) and we had a great time tasting all the unique snacks! I had wished this month’s box had more savory food, but that’s probably because I was hungry last night and had already eaten too much chocolate!

I thought maybe they had more sweet items this month because there were more savory things last month (still haven’t quite decided whether I like those yucca puff things). Like you, my first thought about China was how in the world will they do the tissue paper for that flag? I love that they do the paper that way, though – much more interesting than the squiggles.

i was thinking that they would probably get a paper punch for the stars and do them out of construction paper! i despise squigglies.
