Every month in Foldigo‘s subscription activity pack your child receives a new story and hands-on crafty goodness! Foldigo’s packs revolve around a series of stories – the first is “Livingston and Friends” and you get inside the package…
- A short story episode drawn in a comic book style (for your child to illustrate).
- One, full color character that can be folded into 3D form (die-cut!)
- A sheet of 2D characters and objects pulled right from the episode to cut out, color, and play with.
- A foldable pop-out background to recreate a scene from the episode (along with the 2D characters).
- Glue Dots
- All in a very sturdy envelope.
All of the Foldigo materials are printed on premium card stock with vibrant inks and Foldigo includes glue dots to keep the pieces together. Foldigo is $11.95 per month, but you can get a month free with an annual subscription. Brand new yesterday is Foldigo’s digital subscription – just $4.95 a month. If you have a color printer (or a color laser printer, as I do) you can save a sweet chunk of change on this subscription and keep the fun going! As my children love coloring and playing with small figures and comic books, I was totally excited to review this with my kids!
E started coloring the house while I read the kids the story in the comic book. Both were very interested – kids find comic style books very engaging! The story was about a soccer tournament and will extend over each issue. I love that the story isn’t brand new every time, because it means the kids have something to look forward to with each installment.
Unfortunately her hand covers it up, but there was some math in this book too – figuring out how many more people we needed to make a soccer team. As a parent I liked this a lot!
Dad folded the 3D character and mom glued it. My kids are younger than the suggested age for Foldigo, so we spent more time helping than we usually do (I did some coloring too), but the kids were super engaged with this activity.
Next, we folded and cut the house. You can see in the back it’s supported with a cardboard triangle. Foldigo has directions on how to support the paper structure using the shipping envelope. The kids just thought this house was totally awesome.
For a slightly older child (of the recommended age), I don’t think this would need too much parental involvement, but maybe a bit of help with the trickier folding. Kids always seem to know how these things go together. I found the directions very simple and easy to follow. When constructing the house I used the tip of my scissors to do some scoring to make the folding easier and more crisp.
These are the color & cut 2-D characters. They stood up very easily because they are made out of card stock. This provided a real family activity for us and the kids played with it for hours and days even. We did the Foldigo box on Saturday and my daughter was up this morning reading the comic and telling me about her soccer game and playing with Francesca, the 3D dog. I loved how Foldigo inspired her to be creative and imaginative in her play. I also really loved the 3D element and the kids being able to take the story to a 3D space to act it out.
