We are sailing into summer this June with Julep Maven! i got the Classic With a Twist June Julep Maven box this month. Much as I love the brights, I think the more neutral shades are much more wearable. Julep is a nail polish AND beauty box. Or Beauty. Or Nail Polish. I think they are having an identity crisis. I know they want to be a full-line makeup brand but I’m not convinced this is the right direction for Julep. You can sign up here for Julep with my link and use coupon code FREEBOX. That will get you your first box free as well as Maven discounts and free shipping.

That being said, I loved the June theme: fresh, nautical inspired colors that are perfect for now (instead of staid old red white and blue, great for Independence Day, not wearable so much the rest of the season). If you love these colors you can click here to shop this collection while it is still available!

What’s in June Julep Maven box?

The June maven box comes with 2 colors, a beauty item, and a special extra. Unless of course you are getting an all beauty or all polish box! Mine had:

  • Salt Water Taffy by Dolle’s
  • Kennedy (Khaki Crème) and Martha (Polo Pink Crème)
  • Julep DD Crème in Light

Julep DD Creme Review

So, I have seen quite a few complaints about the DD cream. That it had air in the tube or it was very orange. I fortunately did not experience these issues. I ordered the Julep DD cream in light and it was perfect for me. I wondered if people ordered this too dark. I guess I have yellow undertones though. This highlights some of the problems with ordering makeup online without an opportunity to sample it. I know Julep is expanding but I question whether this is really their strength.

Anyhow, despite not having those issues, I didn’t think the coverage was great on this product and thought it was just another liquid foundation. You can try the DD Creme yourself, but it’s quite pricey at $28.80 (after Maven discounts).20130610-113832.jpg

And all rubbed in. It does cover up pinkness.

June Maven Polish colors

I love this month’s polish colors. Kennedy (Khaki Crème) and Martha (Polo Pink Crème). If the khaki looks any green in the photos it just isn’t at all. I don’t have any colors like this one and I think it is great. The swatches are just one quick swipe for the color. And I am a pink nail polish lady. It is so wearable and I do like having a zillion versions of pink.

Should you splurge?

I love Julep and I do think everyone should be a maven because you can get your first box free and always skip any other boxes. Julep is one of my favorites and I get cranky when I skip it. However, I am not totally loving the DD cream. It wasn’t adorable and special like last month’s lipstick trio. It’s just some liquid foundation. So no, I don’t recommend that particular item. I think in the future I won’t be getting the beauty items unless there is something particularly unique about the product.

It’s $19.95 a month and you can pick to skip or change your style profile after seeing the colors. You can sign up here for Julep with my link and use coupon code FREEBOX. That will get you your first box free as well as Maven discounts and free shipping.
